Are HELBLING chairs designed to be used?

Yes. Each chair is a functional piece of furniture, although occasional seating is recommended to preserve the hand-painted artwork. Frequent use and friction may gradually affect the painted upholstery. HELBLING chairs are created to be both admired and enjoyed, with an emphasis on their value as original works of art.

Is every HELBLING chair a one-of-one artwork?

Absolutely. Every HELBLING chair is an original, one-of-one artwork, individually hand-painted by Australian artist Melinda Helbling. No two chairs are identical, and each piece is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Are the chairs new or restored antiques?

Every HELBLING creation begins with a brand-new, imported, antique-inspired chair, never a refurbished or previously owned piece. Crafted in Indonesia with solid mahogany timber frames, elegant detailing and microvelvet upholstery, each chair combines traditional elegance with contemporary materials.

Why microvelvet?

Microvelvet was chosen for its beautiful lustre, luxurious appearance and durability. Its soft, refined finish complements the hand-painted artwork while providing a quality upholstery fabric designed for lasting enjoyment.

What materials are used for the artwork?

Each HELBLING chair is individually hand-painted using professional Australian-made artist-quality paints. The artwork is applied directly to the upholstery, never printed or transferred.

Will the artwork last?

Like fine art and upholstered furniture, the longevity of each piece depends on its environment and how it is cared for.

Each HELBLING chair is created using quality artist-grade materials and intended to be enjoyed for many years. While painted upholstery is naturally more susceptible to wear with frequent use, thoughtful care and occasional seating will help preserve its beauty over time.

How do I care for my chair?

Keep your chair away from direct sunlight, excessive moisture and prolonged friction. Gently dust painted areas with a soft, dry brush and unpainted timber with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing, steam cleaning or applying cleaning products directly to the artwork.

How are HELBLING chairs priced?

Each HELBLING chair is individually priced, reflecting the complexity of the artwork, time involved and materials used. As original, one-of-one works of art, pricing varies between pieces.

Prices and availability are provided by private enquiry.

Can I commission a custom chair?

Yes. Selected commissions are available, allowing you to explore your preferred artwork, chair style, upholstery colour and colour palette, subject to availability.

Can I view a chair before purchasing?

Private viewings may be arranged by appointment at the HELBLING studio in Terrigal, NSW, subject to availability. Please enquire for further information.

Will a HELBLING chair fit through a standard doorway?

HELBLING chairs are generously proportioned statement pieces, and some designs may not fit through standard doorways or narrow passages.

Please check the dimensions of your chosen chair, along with your doorways, hallways and access points, before purchasing.

Do you accept returns or offer refunds?

Due to the original, one-of-one nature of each artwork, HELBLING does not offer returns, exchanges or refunds for change of mind.

Every effort is made to accurately represent each chair through detailed photography and video. Prior to dispatch, a video of the completed chair will be provided for your review and confirmation.

This policy does not affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

Yes. Shipping can be arranged by enquiry, with delivery costs and arrangements confirmed before purchase.
